Breakfast and car transport to Monasterio de Armenteira. From Armenteira to Pontearnelas, pilgrims pass through “La Ruta de la Piedra y del Agua” (The Stone and Water Route) that runs through a beautiful, natural setting. While walking in the shade provided by the trees, we find old water mills resting by the river bank. Orchards and vineyards indicate that we are approaching the Ría de Arousa. After having walked 24 km, we reach the beaches and the Town of Vilanova. Whether accommodation is in Vilanova or there will be an afternoon boat ride depends on the boat timetable for that day which is in accordance with the tide. If the boat does leave that afternoon, accommodation is in Padron, by the Pontecesures port.
Description of the boat ride: The boat journey from Vilanova de Arousa to Pontecesures is on a quality vessel that carries a maximum of 12 people. Bicycles are allowed on. We will plough through the Ría de Arousa and ascend the Ulla River, retracing the trip made by the remains of St. James the Apostle, La Translatio. (approx. 1hour and a half ) We can contemplate the cultivation of mussels in the estuary waters and we will sail the only maritime and fluvial Vía Crucis of the world, where we will discover 17 centenary stone crosses that identify this Santiago Way as the ORIGIN OF ALL OF THE CAMINOS.
