Quinta de San Amaro is situated in the heart of the Salnés Valley, in Meaño, one of the areas with the most production of Albariño wine of all that comprise the P. D.O Rias Baixas. It produces wine of various sizes and productions in over 180 wineries under the protection of the before mentioned protected designation of origin. Our establishment collaborates in one way or another with most of them. Depending on the dates and how the holiday is planned, we will advise you on the best alternative and facilitate bookings for your visit. The most outstanding are: Pazo Baion, Mar de Frades, Adega Eidos, Martin Codax and several other small, traditional wineries that offer a totally different perspective of wine elaboration and one we recommend. Quinta de San Amaro treats their guests to a visit to an Albariño winery which includes wine tasting, regardless of the season or the number of nights booked.

The Manolo Paz Foundation has occupied a special place in the Galician art scene since 2010 and has become an essential visit. This Foundation was launched by the very own Manolo Paz and is directed by his wife, Julia Garcia Escudeiro. The workshop, belonging to the sculptor from Cambados, is in the heart of the Foundation. You can also find a great space dedicated to the exhibition of a large part of his work, where an impressive combination of art and nature prevails. It is a perfect place for group or company visits and it is possible to organize an appetizer inside the facilities.
4 of the sites included in the “Camellia Route” in Galicia are located in the region of the Salnés. We have contact with all of them and can facilitate appointments and if you wish, advise you on organizing your route according to your preference. All are different and distinctive.
We must keep in mind that the visit makes more sense if it occurs during blooming season, which is in winter and that these special gardens are usually part of classic Galician pazos like Pazo La Saleta (10 minutes away by car) or Pazo Rubianes (15 minutes by car). From our point of view, these factors make these visits essential during your stay.
Santiago de Compostela is only 50 minutes by car away from Meaño. We consider a visit to its rooftop an indispensable cultural activity while you are here. During the hour long visit, you can see the Xelmirez Palace and the rooftop of the cathedral and from which you have an incredible view of the cathedral and the heart of the city of Santiago. Tours can either be in Spanish or in English and bookings must be done more than 24 hours in advance. A quality cultural activity that will pleasantly surprise you.

The women shellfish gatherers in the area work with clams, razor clams, and cockles during low tides. Cambados, O Grove, and Illa de Arousa are three locations very near our hotel allowing us to organize an activity, individually or in a group, in which we can share a workday with these women, observe their peculiar job, and appreciate the difficulty of the work that results in a product that brings so much satisfaction to our table.
We book gastronomic tours in the “essential” restaurants in the area like Casa Solla, Culler De Pau, Yayo Daporta, Restaurante D’Berto o Beiramar…
But also in other small and sometimes simple corners, where we can find unique products from our sea and our estuary like oysters and cockles.
In Quinta de San Amaro we are convinced that getting to know and enjoying Galicia means visiting different and diverse places, so you can discover what O Salnés has to offer you.
The company that offers this service has its facilities in Sanxenxo during the summer season. Flyboarding is a much demanded activity for businesses that want to surprise their clients with something different. Families and children can also enjoy it.
Meaño is in a special location. We are inland, among vineyards, surrounded by forests and only 4 km from the best beaches in the area and 8 km from Lanzada Beach. In the municipality of Meaño you can find ¨Ruta dos Muiños” (the Mill Route) that will suit all kinds of hikers. Nearby, by the Armenteira Monastery, you will see the very popular “Ruta da Pedra e da Agua” ( The Water and Stone Route) Experience the forests, rivers, streams, and waterfalls. Visitors may also enjoy walking by the sea on a boardwalk along A Lanzada Beach and a good part of the peninsula of San Vicente de O Grove, an area in which one can also stroll and search for lovely coves. Lastly, Carreiron Natural Park on the Island of Arousa offers a walk through a pine grove, a forest, and small coves while enjoying the sea in the summertime and a sunny day in winter. An incredible place.
All of these routes and some others, will be described to you in person when you reach our hotel and maps will be provided for your convenience.
Equestrian Centre La Atalaya offers excursions on horseback and its facilities are near the famous Lanzada Beach. They offer the possibility of following a route in the forest and during low season, you can enjoy horseback rides on the beach. They also offer something unique and exclusive: outings at night on horseback by the sea during full moons, called “LUADAS”.
Lanzada Beach is one of the best beaches in the south of Galicia to use a longboard and do surf and it can be practised all year round. There are children of all ages and adults who use their summer holiday to take daily surf classes on this famous beach, which is only 10 minutes by car away from our hotel. We have contact with all of the surf schools in the area in order to provide you with the proper training. These surf centres also offer kite surf and paddle surf.

This service provides individual or group kayaking, with or without a guide and kayak rental to take on rivers like the Umia and reach the magnificent small island of Areoso, opposite the Island of Arousa. Quite an experience. It can also be done in the winter with a wet suit.
We offer the possibility of renting road and mountain bikes and have them delivered to our hotel. You may also rent electric bikes. This is aimed for small business groups. The management recommends being accompanied by a guide for its use.
In Arousa Estuary, there are several businesses that are specialized in scuba diving and they offer this activity from a totally different perspective than what you have seen in other waters. Excursions are scheduled daily from O Grove, A Illa de Arousa or Sanxenxo. You can also try their scuba diving baptism.
Areoso Islet is a protected natural area located north of the Island of Arousa, to which it belongs. It has a surface of nearly 9 hectares and consists almost entirely of fine, white sandy beaches, surrounded by crystal clear water similar to that of the Caribbean. It appears to be a dune submerged at the bottom of the sea. South of the island, an area where herbaceous vegetation grows emerges and you can observe a wide variety of native birds. The islet is surrounded by a reef and on its peak lies the remains of a megalithic dolmen. If you wish, you can go on a sea route excursion and see it closely.
Meaño is situated in the Salnes Valley and therefore is not part of the different variants of the Way of Saint James. However, many pilgrims contact us, regardless of the section or route they are completing, to help them organize a part of the way. On the one hand, there are those who contact us because they wish to rest in our facilities at the end of the route. On the other hand, there are those who have chosen the Spiritual Variant and come to the Armenteira Monastery through the Portuguese Way and choose “our house” for accommodation.
Those who walk along the Spiritual Route must board a boat in Vilanova de Arousa that will take them to Iria Flavia (Padron) to relive “la Traslatio,” the navigable route on the Ulla River taken by the body of Saint James the Apostle to later be moved by land to Compostela. We recommend and trust the Agency Tee Travel to book a unique and pleasant accommodation for you. We ensure quality trips, that also can also include having your backpack picked up at our hotel and taken to your next destination.
Meaño is in the region of the Salnés, between the Pontevedra and Arousa Estuaries. From several of our beaches there are spectacular views of the Islands of Cies and Ons, both of which belong to the Atlantic Islands National Park. At Quinta de San Amaro, we usually recommend visiting the Island of Ons for several reasons: it is less crowded, there are restaurants that offer a superb quality octopus, and boats leave from Portonovo, which is only 4km from the hotel. You can also go to Cies, but in the summer you must buy tickets electronically more than a week in advance. It is important to keep in mind that these will not be refunded for any reason, which limits your excursion to the day of the reservation no matter what the weather conditions are. The boats to Cies leave from Vigo or Cangas do Morrazo, which are both 45 minutes from our hotel. Lastly, we offer the possibility to access Ons or other less well -known islands like Salvora or Cortegada by a small private boat for a maximum of 12 people. At Quinta de San Amaro we can organize all of this for you for your convenience.
The region of the Salnés has 200 catalogued archaeological sites. “Monte Lobeira”, in Vilanova de Arousa, “Monte Xiabre” next to Vilagarcia de Arousa, the Castro de A Lanzada” and “Adro Vello” in San Vicente de O Grove are good examples of this. + information
We like to advise you about what is best. We will also tell you which are the most beautiful and the least crowded beaches.
